That's what Ama did!

Updated: Mar 20, 2019

So coming from an Indian family means that there were a lot of natural remedies that Ama (the name given to grandmothers) would use on us unsuspecting kids. One of which was the use of COCONUT OIL. Invariably, on our visits to her, our heads got slathered with the dense oil, and left in, until Ama was satisfied that her work would yield full heads of thick, shiny, black hair. Years later we realised that this traditional ritual had become a health and fashion go-to by all of the whose who, who were wanting thicker and shinier hair! Over and above that, the ingestion of it was found to have natural antibiotic properties, as well as being a more healthy energy source.

This wonder oil has also been used to replace a number of pricy and not so natural p products, such as moisturisers, hair masks, shaving lotions, cleansers, makeup removers, body scrubs, toothpastes and many others.

One of my personal favourite ways of using it, is placing a heaped teaspoon into a cup of black coffee just before going for a run. The oil is broken down easily by the liver, which provides quicker and longer sustained energy compared to energy derived from glucose. (Add a drop of vanilla extract and you have a yummy coffee that makes it the ultimate go to.)

Apparently, there was inherent powers in the think gloop that got kneaded into our heads!

Who would have thought? :p
